With this song, I find it's their best work to date by far. It gives more of an identity in a way I find. Too bad they called it quits in 2009 but it's cool that Alex and the boys decided to get this final set of recordings done.

New Contrabandit Song

Postby Contrabandit » Jan 27th, '12, 05:24

Hey everyone/anyone,

Contrabandit is a Canadian band that existed between 2005 and 2010. After breaking up, we had some shitty feelings about not recording our final work as a band. When we managed to bring one of the musicians home from the great north, and subsequently Europe, we decided to record one last e.p. "Greatest Hits, vol. 3"

This project was the culmination of 2 years of song writing and working the songs in front of audiences in Canada. We wrote, and re-wrote until we had exactly what we wanted. And now, I'm super proud to give you the first song on our new album. Unglued was selected not because it's the best song on the album, or the catchiest, or the most technical, nor the fastest, nor the heaviest...but it's what I consider middle ground. It's the hub that each other song spokes out from. They get heavier (Check Out the Checkout), they get more technical (It's Complicated), they get catchier (Wait On), they get faster (Isolation Pay), and they get better (The Debts).

Please support this. How often does a band break up and then decide they owed it to themselves and their friends to put out one final piece of closure? Exactly. Share this with other punks, Charlie Chaplin enthusiasts, and anyone that wishes more bands put the music first.

p.s. for those of you that dig this, the drummer and singer are together in a new band...un-named for now, but skatepunk centred.

Looking forward for that release!
I think I already asked this on the old forum, but how many songs will be on the EP ?
I only have "I am Dynamite", is there still some copies of the first EP? Was it ever physically released!?
If possible, I'd like to buy the new EP directly from you instead of interpunk.

I highly doubt there are some physical copies of the first EP but it was in physical format. I believe it was only available in local CD shops in Ottawa (perhaps Montreal) where I got my copy years ago. As for the new release I'm not quite sure if it'll be on CD, I just heard that it'll be released digitally unless things have changed.

Here's the track listing for Greatest Hits vol. 3

1- Unstitched
2- Unglued
3- The Debts
4- It's Complicated
5- Check Out The Checkout
6- Isolation Pay
7- Wait On
8- Everything I Never Said

We're looking for someone to press a few copies if any labels are interested ;)
If we don't find anyone it'll be only digital.

As for The Very Best of Contrabandit (our first EP), it was a very cheap DIY release: a CD-R with a sticker label on it and a cardboard sleeve.
I have a few sleeves and sticker labels left somewhere. I'll tell you what: if you guys help us get a label to press 50-100 copies of Greatest Hits vol. 3, I'll make more copies of The Very Best of and send it over with the new EP!

haha yeah that was me! I found some label stickers while moving last month, I'm sorry yours doesn't have the sticker...
On the upper hand, yours says "Hi Khet!" and that's one of a kind!

"The very best of..."

01 - Eye to Eye

Situation strained, something you've never seen
Thoughts inside of your disbelief
Like a chemistry set purchased from a broken man
Spoken words are never the same

The gun in your hand is the voice in your head tonight
The seed and the soil is the work and the toil, no?

You were just a kid, couldn't have meant it if you tried
A solace glint of pride, through saturated eyes
A little latch-key kid, with only half a chance
Only half a dinner, a happenstance

Growing up will never be the same
My first album is your Mp3
When a corporation is legally a human
My bloodline is not in their veins

The voice in your head is the vote in your hand tonight
The gun in your hand holds all your problems

You were just a kid, couldn't have meant it if you tried
But still that lady died, symbolically
A sadness never fades, a true post-Hollywood phase
But repertoires are counterfeits, a balanced trade

Could you ever see things eye to eye,
Instead of an eye for an eye?

02 - Selmer

Selmer's got her best face on today,
She bought the kit from Mary Kay,
Amorous chestnut, passionate peach,
The sentiments attached,
Can't painted eyes see past this crap?

Although she bought it, she never bought in

Selmer slapped again,
Perched with a blowtorch in hand
Igniting magazines that trample on her self-esteem,
Selmer said "Never again"
And did some research sur la web,
She found one thousand chicks who thought like her
To speak a little louder

Take out all the airbrushed pictures please,
And try to add a girl or two
That look like they might actually eat regularly,
'Cause no real girl weighs 80, sorry

The resolutions o' two
Were affixed to the door
But duly ignored

Our girls slapped again,
But without blowtorch in hand,
They buy the magazines that trample on their self-esteem
Selmer said "Never again"
Perched with a blowtorch and the tip
"Just light the magazines that trample on your self-esteem"

03 - Red Sky in the Morning

The corner store has faded
Interests conglomerated
Our culture's left to suffer

The passive are resistant
With their apologies
[Alexis] De Tocqueville couldn't have been more precise
The will of men and mice and greed

So let your distrust begin
Chimeric virtues of no use
An imminence, immobile sin for us all

We stand so proud, I'm so confused
Truth disallowed, revision refused
Didn't you see the red sky this morning?
Surely it's a warning

When Walmart faced a union
They shut down their shop. alright?
Employees lost their only job,
to stand up for their right to unite

I hardly could believe it,
supposed illegality
What kind of example do we set,
Brute incapacity, or greed?

So let your distrust begin
Watch from Nietzsche's mountain-top,
Are we His mistake, or is He ours?

We stand so proud, I'm so confused
Truth disallowed, revision refused
Didn't you see the red sky this morning?
Surely it's a warning

We stand so proud, I'm so confused
Truth disallowed, revision refused
Didn't you see the red sky this morning?
Surely it's a warning

04 -Catch A Camel By The Toe

Suddenly the war had to start
Conflict[ed] ideologies
The ‘good’ played a pre-emptive part
Acting unilaterally against the wrong country
Misguided bravery, declaring holy war

Imperial demands with weaponry in hand
A five year chase goes on
It’s not the man, it’s the hate
Of the mess that they create
Periscope scenery

Administration acting fiercely
Hypnotized the scattered minds
Into thinking they were acting vengefully
Abuse of power for the lies they tell (they tell!)
So well (so well!)
Like they would have it any other way (touché)
You don’t say (no way!)
A policy backwards, rehashing old wars
Abandoned standards, suburban backyards just won’t be the same.

Imperial demands with weaponry in hand
A five year chase goes on
It’s not the man, it’s the hate
Of the mess that they create
Periscope scenery; is not for me

The protest it really failed
With many dead and a homeland in shambles
Economy opened, spawn a new empire
Corporate gain, our expenditure
Impure (for sure!) for sure (impure!)
Hatred hidden behind patriotism, nationalism,
Sacred religion and their holy war.

Imperial demands with weaponry in hand
A five year chase goes on
It’s not the man, it’s the hate
Of the mess that they create
Periscope scenery; is not for me

05 - Going Dutch

It’s insanity, comradery,
Stand for your fellow man when they’re down
For a living wage some still fight and slave
Still wondering what it is that’s keeping us down

Our children battered, bruised and scorned
Our thoughts are washed—a rehearsed chore
My timing’s always off, it’s never the right time for me

I cannot try to relate to tradition
Asphyxiation point that I was made to break
The darkness falls, a fawn has fanned
And I’m my own man

Can you wait for a change
When every voice sounds the same?
Move the offenders far away
Worries banked for another day

Our system fractured, ripped and torn
Our thoughts are washed a rehearsed chore
This system’s failing us, I’m always the first one to leave

I cannot try to relate to superstition
A point of sanity that I could never take
A steeple falls, the book’s put down
And I’m my own man.
